Where is God?

Where is God?

I wanted God to be someone external,
as I wanted someone to name.

I wanted God to be someone external,
as I wanted someone to explain.

I wanted God to be someone external,
as I wanted someone to blame.

    1. Thanks Sharon.
I had part written this poem a while ago and then seeing a dear friend in pain over his divorce broke me open to this poem. He told me as much as he and his wife both wanted the divorce; he was struggling with the reality of the pain. He shared how at lunch he had popped in to see an old friend for support. These two men sat and shared their current life challenges and he says he turned to his friend and said, “Where is this God at times like this.” I could actually feel the pain of his loss.
That night after saying prayer for him and his wife, I woke up at 2am – and the poem was just “there”.
